Theatre Royal Haymarket, located in London's West End, is one of the oldest and most historic venues for performing arts in Britain. It was established in 1720 and today seats over 800 people for each performance. Rich in history, the theatre's regal and classic architecture provides a charming setting for watching plays, musicals, and other performances. The theatre has witnessed performances by some of the world's most renowned actors including Laurence Olivier, John Gielgud, Ralph Richardson, and Judie Dench among others. These performances have contributed to its eminent reputation as a powerhouse of quality drama. The theatre has also been extensively refurbished over the years, combining modern comfort with its original Baroque style architecture. A night at the Theatre Royal Haymarket is a unique blend of great performances with a dash of history, making this venue a must-visit in London. 

**How to Get to the Venue**

Located in the heart of London, Theatre Royal Haymarket is accessible by various modes of transport. The nearest tube station is Piccadilly Circus which is just a short stroll away. There are also numerous bus routes that pass close to the theatre. For those driving, there are several car parks nearby, but it's advisable to check congestion charges and parking restrictions before setting off. Alternatively, cycling or walking may be viable for those living or staying nearby.

The Theatre Royal Haymarket opened in 1821 in the West End. Affectionately known at first as the “little theatre in the Hay”, this ornate, grand building is near to West End theatres including [Her Majesty’s Theatre](https://www.londontheatre.co.uk/theatres/her-majestys-theatre) and the [Harold Pinter Theatre](https://www.londontheatre.co.uk/theatres/harold-pinter-theatre).

The Theatre Royal Haymarket is a pioneering theatre too. In 1873, the theatre was home to the first ever matinee performance, showing a West End production in the afternoon. Now, West End matinees are common practice across the capital.

In the 21st century, shows at the Theatre Royal Haymarket have attracted West End stars and global talent. [Ian McKellen](https://www.londontheatre.co.uk/actor-profile/ian-mckellen) and [Patrick Stewart](https://www.londontheatre.co.uk/actor-profile/patrick-stewart) starred in *Waiting for Godot*, while [Sienna Miller](https://www.londontheatre.co.uk/actor-profile/sienna-miller) and [Sheridan Smith](https://www.londontheatre.co.uk/actor-profile/sheridan-smith) starred together in *Flare Path*. 

## Theatre Royal Haymarket Seating Information

The auditorium has four levels - Stalls, Royal Circle, Upper Circle and Gallery.

The seating in the Stalls is very good, particularly as the overhang of the Dress Circle only really affects the view from Row V onwards. Of note, the narrowing of the auditorium towards the stage does affect the view of the outermost seats in Row H onwards.

The Royal Circle offers excellent view of the stage – the overhang of the Upper Circle doesn’t affect the view from any seat.

Seats in the Upper Circle curve towards the stage at the sides, and do not offer great legroom but views are pretty good for the price on offer.

The Gallery feels far from the stage.
